Glamping in Inland Croatia — personally selected by Rink-Jan
Glamping in inland Croatia
Inland Croatia lies between Zagreb and the coast, in a rolling landscape of forests, meadows and clear-watered rivers. There's almost no development, and mostly you just hear birds. Both Plitvice Lakes National Park and Zagreb are around eighty kilometres away.
Camping Heart of Nature is a farm campsite in the valley, with a swimming pool with a retractable roof that stays open even in the rain. Restaurant Petrova klet serves regional dishes with its own wine and prosciutto, and the campsite shop sells cheese, honey and sausage from the region. From the campsite you can canoe and raft on the Korana, the Kupa and the Mrežnica, or cycle through the forests.

Inland Croatia — more than just glamping
Discover what makes the Inland Croatia region so special — from breathtaking nature to rich culture and endless activities.
LOCATION & CLIMATE Inland Croatia lies between Zagreb and the Adriatic coast, in a rolling landscape of forest, meadows and rivers. The climate is continental: warm summers around 27 to 28 degrees in July and August, and fresh mornings because the campsite lies in a valley. Zagreb and Plitvice Lakes National Park are both about eighty kilometres away.
NATURE Dense deciduous forests, river valleys and wide meadows, with hardly any buildings in between. The Korana, Kupa, Mrežnica and Dobra rivers wind through the area and are clear enough to see the bottom. Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has sixteen terraced lakes that flow into one another via waterfalls.
ACTIVITIES Canoeing and rafting on the rivers, fishing, and walking through the forests around the campsite. Plitvice makes a day trip: wooden boardwalks run right across and alongside the waterfalls. Closer by are the mill village of Rastoke, where houses are built on the waterfalls, and Ozalj Castle. You can hire bikes at the campsite.
CULTURE The inland villages have stayed authentic, with wooden houses, watermills and small farms. Local cuisine centres on game, trout, homemade prosciutto and cheese, often from the farmer around the corner. Karlovac, the city of four rivers, has star-shaped fortifications. Zagreb, with its old Upper Town, is an hour's drive away.
