Things to do in San Marino: five reasons not to skip it

Waking up on a hill in Italy
Imagine spending your holiday in a luxury Desert Lodge from Lodge Holidays. You wake up feeling refreshed at Centro Vacanze San Marino, situated in the heart of a nature park on the border between Emilia-Romagna and the Marche. You stretch out on the spacious terrace with its outdoor kitchen and look out over the Rimini Riviera.
1. You’re staying in the heart of a nature park
Centro Vacanze San Marino is situated on a hill in a nature park, on the border between Emilia-Romagna and Le Marche. You’re surrounded by green hills and have views towards the coast. Our lodges are situated in a private section of the campsite, spaced well apart, so you have plenty of privacy and can enjoy some peace and quiet.

Quiet in the early season, lively in the summer
In the early and late seasons, this is the perfect spot for those seeking peace and quiet and for couples. In summer, there are over fifty hours of entertainment per week and the swimming pool is open, making the campsite ideal for families. So you can choose exactly what sort of holiday you’d like to have here, simply by deciding when to visit.
2. The world’s oldest republic is just round the corner
San Marino is the world’s oldest republic, a small independent country situated on and around Monte Titano. The medieval city walls, the three towers on the rock and the panoramic views over Italy are impressive. The town is five kilometres away – about a ten-minute drive – so you can easily pop over there for an afternoon.

3. The sea is close by, but the crowds aren’t
The Adriatic coast is about a quarter of an hour’s drive away. So you can spend the day at the beach in Riccione or Rimini and return to the tranquillity of the hills in the evening. As you’re staying inland, it’s usually slightly cooler than by the sea, which makes a real difference, especially at night.
4. The Desert Lodge has everything you need
The Desert Lodges at this campsite are fully equipped with private bathrooms, a spacious terrace and an outdoor kitchen. They range from twenty-five to thirty square metres, accommodating five or six people. There’s no air conditioning, but the canvas fabric ventilates naturally and a fan is provided. In the hills, that’s just enough.

Or more compact, in a Safari Lodge
Couples or small families should opt for the Safari Lodge: twenty square metres for up to four people. Compact, but with the same outdoor kitchen and the same covered terrace. That terrace is what guests most often name as their favourite spot.
5. You don’t need to leave the campsite for a great day out
The swimming pool has a toddlers’ area, a water slide and a small island with a waterfall, and is open from late May to early September. At the Garden Restaurant, you can enjoy Romagna specialities on a terrace overlooking the pool. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout the site.

How to get there
Rimini Airport is 21 kilometres away, about a 25-minute drive. Bologna is 120 kilometres away, just over an hour’s drive. By car, it’s a long but straightforward journey through Germany, Austria and northern Italy. The supermarket is three kilometres away.
Practical information
Check-in is from 3.00 pm, check-out by 10.00 am. Small pets are welcome at the campsite; please do ask about the conditions. And check the campsite’s website to see which lodges are still available for the dates you’re looking for, as availability here is limited.
Here you can choose between smaller pitches and, for a small extra fee, larger ones. There were still plenty of free pitches in mid-June. The free bus to and from the historic centre is perfect! Very friendly staff and the price is fine. Nice pool at the campsite with lots of shaded spots and sun loungers, just a shame about the blaring music by the pool in the afternoon — why so loud? Very irritating!
